Library – LRC
Ellis Guilford Learning Resource Centre provides a well-used and valued service within school which aims to support teaching and learning across the curriculum.
All students and staff automatically become members of the LRC on joining Ellis Guilford School.
Monday to Thursday: 8.30am to 4.30pm
Friday: 8.30am to 4.00pm
The LRC is popular with students during their breaks, when they are welcome to find a great book to read, work on their home learning or study quietly. Students in Year 7 and 8 can use the LRC during both of their breaks, Years 9-11 during their second break.
The LRC is staffed by a chartered librarian who is assisted by an apprentice who is training in the field of Business Administration.
The LRC is pleased to offer student leadership opportunities. We currently have a team of dedicated and trained Junior Librarians and opportunities have arisen to co-lead clubs such as our hugely popular Mad Manga Mondays group.

As well as a stock of over 14,000 books, the LRC has a range of newspapers, magazines, local studies material and educational DVDs. Access to a variety of online resources is also provided, particularly for GCSE study. There are computers available, as well as access to a printer and scanner for home learning. The range of library online services continues to expand, so that students can access the library catalogue and quality information sources across the school site and from home to support learning. We are looking to introduce a set of e-readers this year for students to try in the LRC.
LRC use during lessons
The LRC staff work closely with teaching staff, either in the LRC or through classroom visits, to encourage better research skills and to improve information literacy, promote online resources, encourage participation in book award clubs and to recommend good reads.
During the year students have opportunities to take part in the Carnegie Medal Award, the Brilliant Book Award and the Mad Manga Mondays group.
