Debate Mate LaunchNovember 7, 2016 10:58 am
On Thursday 3rd November, 20 Ellis Guilford students from years 7 to 10 attended the Debate Mate Launch at the University of Nottingham. Ellis Guilford School is taking part in the programme this year alongside many other local schools, and the pupils seized the opportunity to get to know their future competition for the upcoming Urban Debate League.
Owen Revell took part in the show debate, performing in front of the entire audience alongside pupils from Redhill Academy and four Debate Mate mentors. Troy Ballington won the prize for the best floor speech, taking home a box of chocolates.
With year 7 and 8 pupils new to Debate Mate, it was a great opportunity for them to learn about what they will be doing over the course of the year and hear first-hand from older pupils who have been a part of the programme for many years.
