Ellis Guilford Under 12 boys have won their last game of the season to become City League Champions!

Mr Murray was there as it happened:

‘Following a convincing 4-0 win against Trinity School in the semi-finals, Ellis Guilford under 12s were due to play Nottingham Academy the following with at the Highfields football ground. I knew this would be the toughest test for the year 7 team of the whole season and their most important game!

The first half was a tense affair. It was raining and hailing, making the playing conditions quite difficult. Both teams had their fair share of possession, were moving the ball around, passing quickly and putting in some fierce tackles despite the weather conditions. Robert made an outstanding first half save, tipping the ball around his post to stop Nottingham Academy taking the lead. The breakthrough came 5 minutes before half time; Lynden played a quality ball through to put Abdul through on goal. He tricked his way past one defender and their keeper came rushing out but Abdul calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net! 1-0 to Ellis Guilford.

Game on! The second half was far more open, both teams created and missed great opportunities and Robert pulled off some incredible saves again. However, there was nothing their keeper could do to stop Kyle’s powerful header from a curling corner delivered from Lynden. 2-0 to Ellis Guilford! That didn’t stop Nottingham Academy who continued to push on and eventually they scored from a set piece 2-1. The year 7 team really had to dig in and the whole team carried on until the final whistle blew.

Ellis Guilford Under 12 boys are league champions! A massive well done to the whole squad, you deserve it!’
